Ghislaine Maxwell cachée en France ?

–Dans le Périgord noir, une région du sud-ouest de la France à cheval entre le Lot-et-Garonne et la Dordogne, Robert Maxwell, le père de Ghislaine Maxwell avait acquis, au nom de son épouse, des terres, des châteaux et des forêts afin de constituer une enclave privée pour sa famille.
–Ghislaine Maxwell a vécu dans cette enclave familiale où sont installés ses cousins. Lors de ses démêlés financiers aux États-Unis, sa sœur Isabel Maxwell y avait déjà trouvé refuge.
–Dans le testament de Robert Maxwell apparaissent par ailleurs trois appartements en France où la famille de Ghislaine Maxwell possède aussi des attaches en région parisienne ainsi qu’en Provence.
–La famille Maxwell est bien connectée avec l’establishment parisien. La France n’extrade pas ses ressortissants.

Depuis le « suicide apparent » de Jeffrey Epstein, la recherche de sa présumée complice Ghislaine Maxwell se retrouve au centre de l’enquête menée par le FBI. Si les investigations évoquant les pistes israélienne ou britannique n’ont pas apporté de résultats probants, la lettre confidentielle Faits & Documents a publié en exclusivité une enquête sur les liens entre Ghislaine Maxwell et la France, pays où elle est née, dont elle possède la nationalité et où vit une partie de sa famille. Voici, à destination de la presse anglophone, les conclusions résumées de notre enquête parue dans les numéros 476 et 477 de Faits & Documents (datés du 15 janvier et du 1er février).
Le français est la langue maternelle de Ghislaine Maxwell. En France, son père avait discrètement constitué une enclave familiale. Située dans une région recluse du Sud-Ouest de la France, cette enclave n’est pas identifiable à partir du fameux Livre noir, le carnet d’adresses regroupant les contacts de Jeffrey Epstein et de Ghislaine Maxwell. Ce qui explique que cette piste soit passée jusque là sous les radars et que la France ait sans doute été la solution privilégiée par la fugitive.
Une discrète enclave familiale
Avant son décès en 1991, le magnat très controversé des médias Robert Maxwell avait discrètement acquis, dans le Périgord noir, plusieurs châteaux mais aussi des terres et des forêts afin de constituer une « enclave familiale ». Des propriétés acquises au nom d’Elisabeth Meynard, son épouse française, comme le soulignait The Evening Standard dans son édition du 10 décembre 1991.
Les neuf enfants de Robert Maxwell sont nés en région parisienne, à Maisons-Laffitte, où sa belle-sœur Yvonne Vittoz-Meynard (1918-2011) était gynécologue.
Les Vittoz, qui constituent la branche française de la famille de Ghislaine Maxwell, apparaissent dans le Livre noir où l’on retrouve deux des cinq enfants d’Yvonne Vittoz-Meynard, à savoir Martine Moniot-Vittoz, gynécologue à la retraite domiciliée rue Vauban à Maisons-Laffitte, ainsi que son frère Patrick Vittoz, un architecte installé à Londres. Spécialisé dans la rénovation de bâtiments classés en Dordogne pour une riche clientèle britannique, Patrick Vittoz a rénové, pour le compte de Robert Maxwell, le manoir de Fraytet à Montagnac-sur- Lède dans le Périgord noir.
À la fin de sa vie, Elisabeth Meynard, la mère de Ghislaine Maxwell, a passé de plus en plus de temps au manoir de Fraytet « ne recevant qu’un seul visiteur régulier – sa fille Ghislaine, qui a une maison près de Bordeaux » comme le notait alors le DailyMail (24, février 2007).
Outre Patrick et Martine Vittoz, figurent dans le Livre noir les trois enfants de leur sœur, Élisabeth Vittoz et de son époux Jean-Marie Polu, à savoir Emmanuelle Polu, banquière à La Nef, une société financière active dans les projets écologiques et dans l’économie sociale et solidaire, Isabelle Polu, une ancienne responsable du marketing chez Microsoft devenue traductrice spécialisée en psychologie chez l’éditeur parisien JCLattès et Clary-Élisabeth Polu, successivement directrice du marketing de Lycos et de Meetic, épouse du « startupeur » Christophe Schaming, coactionnaire de Winamax, la société de paris en ligne cofondée par la mystérieuse passagère du Lolita Express Nicole Junkermann…Cette branche de la famille a ses attaches au lieu-dit Maillardou, à Montagnac-sur-Lède, dans l’ « enclave familiale » des Maxwell.
Toujours dans cette enclave, vit également à Montaut (Dordogne) le cadet des enfants d’Yvonne Vittoz-Ménard et cousin germain de Ghislaine Maxwell, Michel Vittoz, un écrivain et traducteur, bien connu dans le milieu parisien du théâtre. Son fils Samuel Vittoz dirige, toujours dans le Périgord noir, le Festival de Villeréal. Villeréal est le village où est domiciliée la SCI du domaine d’Élisabeth Meynard veuve Maxwell, la société civile immobilière qui regroupe les propriétés de la famille dans la région.
Après l’organisation, en 2011, de Mindshift, un colloque réunissant le gratin du monde scientifique à Little Saint James, l’île privée d’Epstein, Isabel Maxwell, la sœur aînée de Ghislaine et son compagnon Al Seckel ont été accusés par Ensign Consulting, une mystérieuse société basée aux îles Vierges américaines (comme tant d’autres entreprises d’Epstein), d’avoir détourné 500 000 dollars. Et comme à chaque fois que des membres de la famille Maxwell se sont retrouvés en difficulté, Isabel Maxwell et Al Seckel se sont réfugiés dans la base arrière de la famille, cette fois à Vézac, au château de la Malartrie.
D’autres adresses en France
En plus de l’enclave familiale qui avait été constituée à son nom, Élisabeth Meynard a hérité de trois autres appartements en France, comme le révèle le testament de Robert Maxwell publié dans le Financial Times (19 juin 1992) qui ne précise toutefois pas les adresses.
Christine Maxwell, la sœur jumelle d’Isabel, a été aperçue au mois d’août 2019 en plein déménagement à proximité de Manchester-by-the-Sea (Massachusetts) où a vécu un temps Ghislaine Maxwell. Christine Maxwell a fait savoir par le truchement d’un domestique que la famille n’aidait pas Ghislaine Maxwell et qu’elle la « dénoncerait » si elle savait où elle se cachait (DailyMail, 3 septembre 2019). Cette déclaration était destinée à éteindre l’incendie provoqué par le faitque dans le Livre noir, l’essentiel des contacts de Christine Maxwell renvoient à la France et à une adresse qui a circulé dans l’establishment new-yorkais comme un refuge crédible pour Ghislaine Maxwell. Cette éventualité a été écartée par une enquête du Telegraph (16 août 2019) qui évoque la revente de cette propriété en 2015. Située à Meyreuil (Bouches-du-Rhône), à proximité d’Aix-en-Provence, cette localisation s’explique par le fait que son époux Roger-Frank Malina a été directeur de recherche au CNRS au sein du Laboratoire d’astrophysique de Marseille (LAM). Toujours en France Roger-Frank Malina dirige la revue trimestrielle Leonardo déposée sous forme d’association au 17, rue Émile-Dunois à Boulogne-Billancourt en région parisienne. Aujourd’hui éditée par MIT Press, cette revue portant sur les interactions entre l’art contemporain, les sciences et les nouvelles technologies a été fondée par son père, l’ingénieur américain, Frank Joseph Malina, un proche de Robert Maxwell qui s’installa en France en 1947 comme fonctionnaire international à l’UNESCO après avoir été suspecté pour ses accointances communistes aux États-Unis.
Ghislaine Maxwell protégée par les autorités françaises ?
Il est connu que Jeffrey Epstein possédait un somptueux pied-à-terre à Paris, à deux pas des Champs-Élysées, et qu’il fut arrêté, en juillet dernier, alors qu’il revenait de la capitale française. En outre, l’intendant parisien d’Epstein a évoqué les visites « de ministres en fonction aujourd’hui ou ayant appartenu à des gouvernements passés » comme le rapportait France Info le 30 août 2019 : « Parmi eux figure Jack Lang […] qui a convié Jeffrey Epstein en mars 2019 aux célébrations des 30 ans de la pyramide du Louvre. Les deux hommes se sont rencontrés il y a plusieurs années lors d’un dîner organisé en l’honneur de Woody Allen.»
Jack Lang est un homme politique bien connu en France. Membre du Parti socialiste, reconduit à la présidence de l’Institut du monde arabe à Paris par Emmanuel Macron, il a été à plusieurs reprises ministre de l’Éducation nationale et de la Culture. Jack Lang, dont la fille Caroline Lang figure dans le Livre noir, était également un proche de Robert Maxwell. Il avait appuyé son introduction en France, à la fin des années 80. Cet appui, mais aussi celui de Jacques Attali qui était alors le « sherpa » du président François Mitterrand et qui allait devenir le parrain en politique d’Emmanuel Macron, avait permis à l’époque à Robert Maxwell de devenir le deuxième actionnaire de TF1, la première chaîne française de télévision ainsi que l’actionnaire majoritaire de la société édificatrice de la Grande Arche de la Défense.
Parmi les appuis dans la haute société parisienne apparaissent également dans le Livre noir d’Epstein Alberto et Linda Pinto, les architectes d’intérieurs préférés de Jeffrey Epstein qui ont également aménagé les appartements privés de l’Élysée, le palais présidentiel, du temps du président Jacques Chirac. À Paris, les Pinto ont pignon sur rue. Leur cabinet est situé au 11, rue d’Aboukir dans le IIe arrondissement et Linda Pinto vit aujourd’hui Quai d’Orsay dans le très chic VIIe arrondissement de Paris. Notons enfin que figure dans le Livre noir, à la rubrique concernant le volet le plus explosif de l’affaire Epstein, à savoir Little Saint-James, l’ «île de la pédophilie», l’influent Madison Cox, actionnaire du Monde, le quotidien français de référence, par ailleurs « veuf » de Pierre Bergé, patron d’Yves Saint Laurent, grand argentier de la gauche française et soutien d’Emmanuel Macron.
Is Ghislaine Maxwell hiding in France?

–In the Périgord Noir, an area of Southwest France straddling the Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne departments, Robert Maxwell, Ghislaine Maxwell’s father, had acquired, on his wife’s account, large tracts of land, castles and forests in order to create a private enclave for his family.
-Ghislaine Maxwell has resided in this family enclave where her cousins are settled. During her financial troubles in the United States, her sister Isabel Maxwell had already taken refuge there.
-Robert Maxwell’s will includes three apartments in France. Ghislaine Maxwell’s family also has ties in the Paris area as well as in Provence.
-The Maxwell family is well connected to the Parisian establishment, and France does not extradite its nationals.

Since Jeffrey Epstein’s "apparent suicide", the search for his alleged accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell has been at the centre of the FBI’s investigation. Although the Israeli and British leads did not have any convincing results, the confidential letter Faits & Documentshas published an exclusive survey on the links between Ghislaine Maxwell and France, the country where she was born, of which she is a national and where part of her family lives. Here are, for the English-language press, the summarized conclusions of our investigation published in Faits& Documents’ issues 476 and 477 (dated January 15 and February 1st ).
French is Ghislaine Maxwell’s mother tongue. In France, her father has discreetly set up a family enclave. Located in a secluded region of Southwest France, this enclave is not listed in the famous Black Book, the address book containing the contacts of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. This explains why this track has so far escaped the radars and why France was probably the solution favoured by the fugitive.
A discreet family enclave
Before his death in 1991, the controversial media pundit Robert Maxwell discreetly acquired several castles in the Black Perigord, as well as land and forests, in order to create a "family enclave". He did so via Elisabeth Meynard, his French wife, as outlined in The Evening Standard in its issue of December 10, 1991.
Robert Maxwell’s nine children were born near Paris region, in Maisons-Laffitte, where his sister-in-law Yvonne Vittoz-Meynard (1918-2011) was a gynaecologist.
The Vittozes, the French branch of Ghislaine Maxwell’s family, appear in the Black Book, including two of Yvonne Vittoz-Meynard’s five children, namely Martine Moniot-Vittoz, a retired gynaecologist living on rue Vauban in Maisons-Laffitte, and her brother Patrick Vittoz, an architect living in London. Specializing in the renovation of historical buildings in the Dordogne for a wealthy British clientele, Patrick Vittoz renovated, on behalf of Robert Maxwell, the Fraytet manor in Montagnac-sur-Lède in the Black Perigord.
Late in her life, Elisabeth Meynard, Ghislaine Maxwell’s mother, spent more and more time at Fraytet : " Villagers say she has only one regular visitor -her daughter Ghislaine, who has a home 50 miles away in Bordeaux and comes over every few weeks " as the Daily Mail noted at the time (February 24, 2007).
The Black Book, beside Patrick and Martine Vittoz, also mentions the three children of their sister Elisabeth Vittoz, and her husband Jean-Marie Polu,namely Emmanuelle Polu (a banker at La Nef, a financial company active in ecological projects and in the social and solidarity economy), Isabelle Polu (a former marketing manager at Microsoft who became a translator specialising in psychology for the Parisian publisher JC Lattès, and Clary-Élisabeth Polu (successively marketing director of Lycos and Meetic, wife of the startup entrepreneur Christophe Schaming, co-shareholder of Winamax, the online betting company co-founded by the mysterious passenger of the Lolita Express Nicole Junkermann... This branch of the family has its roots in the Maillardou area, in Montagnac-sur-Lède, in the "family enclave" of the Maxwells.
In this enclave also lives in Montaut (Dordogne) the youngest child of Yvonne Vittoz-Ménard and first-degree cousin of Ghislaine Maxwell, Michel Vittoz, a writer and translator, well known in the Parisian theatre milieu. His son Samuel Vittoz, also based in the Black Perigord, is the head of the Festival of Villeréal. Villeréal is the village where the SCI du domained’Elisabeth Meynard veuve Maxwell has its seat, a “civil real estate company” (sociétécivileimmobilière) acting as an umbrella for the family’s properties in the region.
After organizing Mindshift, a 2011 symposium bringing together the cream of the scientific world in Little Saint James, Epstein’s private island, Isabel Maxwell, Ghislaine’s older sister and her companion Al Seckel were accused by Ensign Consulting, a mysterious company based in the US Virgin Islands (like so many of Epstein’s other companies), of embezzling $500,000. And as every time members of the Maxwell family were in trouble, Isabel Maxwell and Al Seckel took refuge in one of the family’s rear bases, this time in Vézac, at the castle de la Malartrie.
Other addresses in France
Beside the enclave that had been set up in her name, Élisabeth Meynard inherited three apartments in France, as revealed in Robert Maxwell’s will published in the Financial Times(19 June 1992) though without the addresses.
Christine Maxwell, Isabel’s twin sister, was spotted in August 2019 while moving home near Manchester-by-the-Sea (Massachusetts) where Ghislaine Maxwellonce lived. Christine Maxwell announced through a servant that the family was not helping Ghislaine Maxwell and that she would ‘report her’ if she knew where she was hiding(Daily Mail, September 3, 2019). This statement was intended to put out the fire caused by the fact that in the Black Book, most of Christine Maxwell’s contacts refer to France and to an address that circulated in the New York establishment as a credible refuge for Ghislaine Maxwell. This possibility has been ruled out by a survey of The Telegraph (August 16, 2019) which suggests that the property could be sold in 2015. The location in Meyreuil (Bouches-du-Rhône) near Aix-en-Provence is explained by the fact that her husband Roger-Frank Malina was a CNRS research director in the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM). Roger-Frank Malina is the director of the quarterly magazine Leonardo, via an association registered at 17, rue Émile-Dunois in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris. Now published by MIT Press, the periodical covers the interactions between contemporary art, science and new technologies. It was founded by his father, the American engineer Frank Joseph Malina, a relative of Robert Maxwell who moved to France in 1947 as an international civil servant at UNESCO after being suspected of having communist connections in the United States.
Is Ghislaine Maxwell protected by the French authorities?
Notoriously, Jeffrey Epstein owned a sumptuous apartment in Paris, a stone’s throw from the Champs-Élysées, and was arrested last July on his way back from the French capital. In addition, Epstein’s housekeeper in Paris mentioned the visits "of ministers in office or who belonged to past governments" as reported by France Info on August 30, 2019: "Among them is Jack Lang [...] who invited Jeffrey Epstein in March 2019 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Louvre Pyramid. The two men met several years ago at a dinner in Woody Allen’s honour."
Jack Lang is a well-known politician in France. Member of the Socialist Party, reappointed President of the Arab World Institute in Paris by Emmanuel Macron, he has been the Minister of National Education and Culture on several occasions. Jack Lang, whose daughter Caroline Langis mentioned in the Black Book, was also a close associate of Robert Maxwell. He had supported his introduction in France in the late 1980s. This support, as well as that of JacquesAttali (then the "sherpa" (middleman) of President François Mitterrand, and later the main political coach of Emmanuel Macron), had enabled Robert Maxwell at the time to become the second-largest shareholder of TF1, the leading French television channel, as well as the majority shareholder of the company that built the Grande Arche de la Défense.
Among the supporters in Parisian high society also appear in Epstein’s Black BookAlbertoand Linda Pinto, Jeffrey Epstein’s favourite interior designers , who also redesigned the private apartments of the presidential Elysée Palace during the mandate of President Jacques Chirac. The Pintos have quite an aura in Paris. Their firm is located at 11, rue d’Aboukir in the 2nd arrondissement and Linda Pinto now lives on Quai d’Orsay in the very chic 7th arrondissement. It should also be noted that the Black Book, in the section concerning the most explosive aspect of the Epstein affair – namely Little Saint-James, the "island of paedophilia” – mentions the influential Madison Cox, shareholder of Le Monde, the "French reference daily", and "widower" of Pierre Bergé, manager of Yves Saint Laurent, a great purveyor of the French left and a supporter ofEmmanuel Macron.
